Summer, summer, summertime...
We might be a little biased but we think Bristol is the best place to be during the summer months. Read on to discover some of the things that make it so great!
Events for everyone
Bristol in summer plays host to a huge range of events offering something for everyone!
- St. Paul’s carnival returned this year after a 3 year hiatus to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
- Bristol Pride has been named among the world’s fastest growing Pride festivals. The annual festival is an opportunity to celebrate equality and diversity. There are a series of Pride events taking place throughout July culminating with Pride day which features an incredible musical line-up and a colourful parade through the city centre!
- Bristol Harbour Festival, now in its 47th year, is free for everyone attend and attracts over 250,000 people every year. We love the way the festival celebrates Bristol’s rich maritime history while showcasing some incredible music and entertainment.
- Upfest, Europe's largest free street art and graffiti festival will return this summer, featuring over 400 artists painting 50 venues throughout Bedminster and Southville.
Look to the skies
We love how often we can spot hot air balloons in the Bristol sky, but did you know that Bristol is home to Europe's largest annual meeting of hot air balloons? Bristol International Balloon Fiesta attracts over 130 hot air balloons from all over the world and it’s completely free to attend. During the infamous Nightglows and Firework Finale a selection of balloons are tethered and light up the sky to a specially commissioned soundtrack.
Cracking trail Gromit!
Did you know that Bristol is the home of Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace and Gromit? Gromit has been let loose in Bristol for the second time this summer along with his pal Wallace and his arch nemesis Feathers McGraw for Gromit Unleashed 2! The Gromit Unleashed trail features over 60 giant sculptures designed by artists, designers, innovators and local talent positioned in a variety of iconic Bristol locations. What makes the trail even better? It’s all in aid of Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal which was established in 1995 to support Bristol Children’s Hospital by funding pioneering, life-saving equipment and research.
